In a recent JonathtanKlunk.com post entitled “Business Closings in 2009 Due To Economy” on November 21, 2008, it was stated that Movie Gallery was slated to close 160 stores as part of a reorganization plan, and Hollywood Video was to close 400 stores for similar reasons. However, it was recently Viagra buy discovered that this information is incorrect.
On Movie Gallery’s company blog, the following is stated:
“It has recently come to our attention that there is information circulating the Internet regarding Movie Gallery and Hollywood Video store closures, which would have implications regarding gift card redemption. We would like to inform you that this information is not accurate. At this time there are no plans in place to close any of our Movie Gallery or Hollywood Video retail locations.”
This information was posted by Sherif Mityas, President and CEO of Retail Operations.

Nice site. There?s some good information on here. I?ll be checking back regularly.
’s funny…Cuz my local Movie Gallery’s manager let it slip yesterday that it has been confirmed there are a few hundred more stores closing. Now. This year.
The list hasn’t been made public, but the stores INVOLVED supposedly already know.
i happen to be a manager for movie gallery and they are not closing any stores in the near future. also i would love to know how that particular store manager got all that out of the download that sherif sent to ‘all stores’ letting us know that the rumor was a sham and they don’t plan to close any stores now or in the near future. i think someone is being a bit dramatic or has a serious problem understanding what they read.
Well, it seems that the original post may be correct. We just discovered that they closed the store that we go to. We have not been there in about a month, and no signs at the time warned of this. Now today its closed. Everything is empty, no signs, no nothing. Is there a true and accurate list of store state by state that is slated to close?
I work for this organization and would just like to send a shout out to Sherif!!!!! Met ya in Vegas and loved the show. Hoping with this post that you could confirm whether or not there will be a 2009 vendor show for the company.
This will help these folks with the closings and the need to be in the know.
Thanks,
Ace
p.s. congrats on the promotion
This is true. I work for the company and on Monday, corp walked into our district and shut down 5 store with NO notice. They waited until all of the guests were out of the store, locked up at 3:30 in the afternoon for business. I was told, by my SMRG, that they were 3 other stores in my district that are going to close soon. This is due to HV/MG not paying rent and property taxes on several locations.
i was just at one in elmwood pk and those doors are closing too
ROFL I am not even sure what to say about this. I did work for the company before they decided to shut down half the gamecrazy brand and name it as “Most stores will not be effected by this” and then shut down another 200MG’s and a couple hundred hollywood videos.
That is my shout out to you Sherif thanks for lying to us and pissing away money in vegas!
It is sad that the employees of Movie Gallery, Inc. are getting no warning of the closures. Many of the store managers are working long hours to cut labor costs with the hopes of getting everyone on the same page. Now we find out it may have been for nothing. Tisk, tisk…we should be notified other than being told your store will close if you can’t sell powerplay. Think about the demographics before you begin a program that is suppose to work for everyone. Test stores should be tested longer before programs are rolled out and the wrinkles in the system ironed out first. When the people who want PowerPlay buy it and the rest continually say no, what then? Fire all of us????????
