Travel Debacle

I am entering my blog post today at 27,000 feet somewhere between Boston’s Logan International Airport and New York’s LaGuardia. This is the first leg of my return flight to Louisville.

The trip began with a not so cordial exchange between Dmitri, the manager of Hertz car rental at Logan International, and me. I told Dmitri that the navigation system that they charge $11 per day for has not worked properly the entire week. I had to rely on my cell phone time and time again to give me directions for where I was going. I also told Dmitri that I was in a rust to catch a flight. Dmitri did not like this. He proceeded to provide me with a voucher good for a rebate of $15 the next time I rent from Hertz. Apparently it is difficult for Hertz to give a refund for malfective equipment.

The second exchange came when I printed my boarding passes at the US Airways counter and tried to check the luggage I had once again paid $15 for them to put beneath the airplane, as I was already carrying two. Apparently I was in the wrong ticketing line, and I needed to be in the line at the other end of the airport. Since I am returning through NYC, previously unbeknownst to me, and taking the Boston-NYC shuttle, there is apparently a completely different procedure to follow.

I finally made it through the ticketing line and security checkpoint at 12:45, just in time to board the airplane which was scheduled for a 1:00 departure. We had a bit of a commotion on the runway before taking off…..

But all seems to be fine now. I will check in again either from LaGuardia or from Louisville.
